Materialica Silver Award 2014

EDAG wins award for competition entry "ultra-light, multi-functional housing for power electronics, manufactured using additive technolo

On 21st October, 2014, at the eCarTec, EDAG Engineering AG was presented with the silver Materialica Award 2014 for its competition entry, the "ultra-light, multi-functional housing for power electronics, manufactured using additive technology".

The housing, which was produced using an additive manufacturing process, weighs in at just 900 g, compared to the 1,900 g of the reference construction method in cast metal.

The one advantage that will prove decisive in moving our society forwards is the CO2-reduced vehicle body of the future. Modules and components like the electronics housing can make a major contribution to achieving this aim. Even though industrial use of additive manufacturing processes is still in its infancy, the revolutionary advantages with regard to greater freedom in development and tool-free production make this technology a subject for the future.

From 21st to 23rd October, 2014, EDAG was in Munich, attending the 6th eCarTec, the leading international trade fair for electric and hybrid mobility. One of EDAG's focal points was the progress currently being made in the networking of vehicle systems. Generally speaking, "car IT" is being hailed as the next revolution in vehicles and vehicle development.
EDAG seized this automotive mega trend, and presented one of its own visions of innovative vehicle applications and the next generation of driver assistance systems at the eCarTec.
