New facility in Wolfsburg for up to 1,100 EDAG development engineers

Construction work to start on the new EDAG Technology and Development Centre in Wolfsburg-Warmenau on 26th March, 2015

Wolfsburg. In cooperation with the investor, Bertram Projektmanagement GmbH (Hanover), Wiesbaden engineering service provider EDAG is to build one of Wolfsburg's largest technology and development centres at the Warmenau site for an estimated investment volume of approx. € 70 million.

The official turf cutting ceremony on 26.3.2015 marked the start of this ambitious new project at the industrial park in Warmenau-East. The present workforce of 850 EDAG development experts will already be moving into the new 22,000 m² building at the end of the year. A second, 6,500 m² building will also be constructed at the same site as the technical centre, and this will be used to offer further services.

EDAG currently has seven individual facilities in the region - in Wolfsburg, Gifhorn and Helmstedt - and these will in future be brought together with the new Technology and Development Centre. "With EDAG, one of the world's largest engineering service providers to the automotive industry will continue to be represented in Wolfsburg in the future. I am pleased that this future-oriented company is concentrating a number of important production sites here," said Wolfsburg's Lord Mayor Klaus Mohrs. For Wolfsburg, the systematic and forward-looking planning of commercial space has paid off. Thomas Krause, Director of Wolfsburg AG added: "Securing the company's further existence on this scale strengthens the supplier status of the region and the entire regional automotive network."

"With the new facility in Wolfsburg-Warmenau, we can offer our customers all-round local engineering service capacities for all aspects of the development of complete vehicles and production plants. We are in an excellent position to be able to handle complex, integrated development orders in the direct vicinity of VW," explained Jörg Ohlsen, CEO of EDAG Engineering GmbH.

"What is more, our customers in Wolfsburg will, of course, have access to our global site network with a workforce of more than 7,500. Our interdisciplinary development teams in Wolfsburg are predestined for supervising and controlling major projects for our customer VW, also on an international basis."

The EDAG Group has firmly established itself in the automotive sector as one of the world's leading engineering service providers. The company, which has had premises in the VW city since 1979, has continually expanded its competencies and capacity over the past few years. The EDAG Group's plans for the near future also include the continuing growth of the Wolfsburg site.

"By 2016, we will have increased the size of our Wolfsburg workforce to some 1,100 employees," commented Harald Poeschke, COO of EDAG Engineering GmbH. "We look forward to creating new jobs in Wolfsburg, and invite applications from committed individuals who are interested in joining us and helping to shape the future of the automobile."
