Acknowledged lightweight design specialist EDAG on tour
EDAG represents lightweight design competence at numerous renowned events this March, including the Lightweight Design Summit in Würzburg, Inside 3D Printing in Berlin, etc.
Wiesbaden/Fulda. The Lightweight Design Summit - one of the leading lightweight design conferences in the automotive industry - was held in Würzburg from 10.-11.03.2015, under the motto "Now really investing in lightweight design". On the podium, a discussion chaired by Claus Peter Köth, editor-in-chief of "Automobil Industrie" and Ralf Anderseck of Prospecting Partners GmbH was held between the lightweight design experts from our sector. Franz Storkenmaier from the BMW Group, Dr. Christina Hack from Brose, Heinrich Timm, CCeV board member and previous head of Audi's lightweight design centre, Martin Hillebrecht (Dr.-Ing.) from EDAG, Dr. Jürgen Wesemann from Ford. "Lightweight design will only have a future in the automotive industry if we succeed in keeping technologies affordable, so that they can become established in high-volume production," was the tenor of the discussion.
The group examined the question of what forward-looking criteria can now be applied by suppliers investing in lightweight design, so as to secure a position in this key technology and of course advance lightweight design to even greater effect.
In addition, Sven Orloff and Dr. Martin Hillebrecht also gave two exciting technical presentations on lightweight design during the conference. In-depth discussions with the trade visitors (OEM advance development managers and scouts, technology suppliers, service providers, research institutes) were also held at the EDAG stand.
EDAG's Competence Centre for Lightweight Construction was also represented at a second event in Berlin.
With over 1,000 international visitors, the Inside 3D Printing on 3.3.2015 established its position as the new international leading trade fair for 3D printing. EDAG was a part of this new, still developing scene from the very beginning, and enriched the programme with a talk on the subject: "Future potentials with additive manufacturing of ultra-light and multi-functional automotive components".
At the side of our business partner and conference organiser Dr. Eric Klemp from the Direct Manufacturing Research Center in Paderborn, Dr.-Ing. Martin Hillebrecht presented and discussed EDAG's viewpoints.
Visitors from the automotive industry reacted with surprise and enthusiasm to the references from the last few years on the subject of additive manufacturing that we can now provide.
We will be presenting further exciting accounts on the subject of lightweight design 2.0, some of them with the addition of technical background information on "Light Cocoon", the latest EDAG concept car, at the following events:
- Euroforum conference "Trends in the commercial vehicle industry" in Munich on 25.-26.03.2015, by conference moderator Jochen Seifert and EDAG's Dr.-Ing. Martin Hillebrecht
- "3D print in product development and manufacturing – applications and potential" conference in Landshut on 24th March, 2015, where we will also be represented by EDAG commercial vehicle expert Jochen Seifert
- "Materials in body construction", international technical conference of the Automotive Circle in Bad Nauheim on 22nd - 23rd April, 2015: two presentations by Sven Orloff and Dr. Martin Hillebrecht on the subject of lightweight design using multi-material systems
Developed in cooperation with well-known research and development partners, the lightweight concepts demonstrated in the EDAG presentations are intended to communicate new future potential to the industry, and encourage discussion.
