The aim is always the same: optimum product properties at minimum cost and weight. Our task is to ensure that no conflicting aims arise between these new requirements and quality standards. And, of course, bearing the subsequent production in mind. We call this production-optimised development.

The first stage is usually virtual. We simulate the development concepts in order to optimise their stiffness, strength, safety, crash performance and of course feasibility. Following this, our test department carries out the validation process.

The development procedure is part of our tried and tested process landscape. From the approval procedure, parts list and the monitoring of deadlines, cost and weight, to change management, assembly support and supplier management – we accept responsibility for the development of complete bodies in white, and act as a system integrator at all relevant interfaces.

To ensure that the design will not have to be altered at a later date, attention is paid to the joints and to assuring technical feasibility during the design validation phase.

Our development work focuses just as much on areas such as acoustics (e.g. wind noise) or ease of locking as it does, for instance, on pedestrian protection: from the concept phase, design, simulation and validation, through to the finished series product.  

In addition, we also work on innovative material concepts for vehicle manufacturers and system suppliers, to meet product requirements that might not yet be important, but very soon will be.

The customer's comfort plays a central role in the development of interior components. The car needs to feel right as soon as he gets into it for the first time. Light & Sight

There is probably no component that makes a more marked contribution to the appearance of a car than its lights. They give a vehicle character and its own unique expression. Whether they are refined, grand, friendly or even aggressive - the lights are the "eyes" of a car, and are today optimised to give the desired effect.

For us, light development begins with the first design studies, followed by extensive simulation methods. Using specially designed software tools, we analyse and optimise the target light design so that it is physically correct. The advantage of this virtual simulation is that the impression the lights will later make can be examined well before the first prototype is made. Apart from dealing with the layout of optical components, the virtual validation of legal requirements is also carried out here. After prototype or series design, control units and the appropriate software are developed in the Electronics department. To guarantee the operational reliability of the components while they are being operated, we then carry out a complete thermal design with the most suitable cooling processes and material tests. Seating systems

They need to provide more and more "feel good" comfort, better ergonomics, but nevertheless be compact, light and affordable - the demands placed on modern car seats go in every conceivable direction. And to make sure that these demands do not rule each other out, our seat development staff work on new concepts with new materials and new structures.

This particular field covers all facets of concept development in the field of complete seats and their components. This includes metal / mechanical developments, but also electrical components and the integration of airbag systems.

As the party responsible for the development work, we take charge of the process from the concept phase through to the documentation of the project by the customer. This also includes the set-up and approval of the concept model. The documents thus produced serve as the basis for series development and production.

And if you are looking for controls for the series development of complete seating systems, we also go one step further. On request, we also take responsibility for the integration of the seating systems in the complete vehicle. Supplier management, project timing and continuous cost control are, of course, included.

Roof systems

Modern roof systems like those in today's cabriolets are designed to do a whole lot more than just protect the passengers from the effects of wind and the weather.

Sometimes the focus is on minimum noise generation, sometimes on ensuring that it takes up as little space as possible when it is folded down, and sometimes on creating a particularly high-quality look or neat locking mechanism. No matter what focal point is called for, we will take on the concept development for roof systems and their components for you. And also the styling of associated development activities, in order to be able to check and validate the technical feasibility of the design surfaces relevant to fitting the roof at an early stage. From soft top and RHT roof systems (i.e. roof modules including flaps and covers) to the areas where the soft top is attached to the vehicle – we work in close cooperation with specialised tier 1 suppliers to get series development under way.

And as always: on request, we will carry out the complete integration of the roof system in the vehicle for you, acting as an interface between the series developer/supplier of roof systems and complete vehicle development.

With EDroof, a roof concept we developed in-house, we have demonstrated that not only a combination of hard and soft tops is possible, but that it is also possible for the decisive advantages of the two types of system to be intelligently combined.
