The globally active EDAG group has sold their production area for civil vehicle armouring to the market leader for highly protected wheel and track armoured vehicles Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMV). An agreement has been made between the two companies.
Frank Haun, chairman of the KMW board declared, "The addition of the EDAG protective branch to our many protective activities is a logical step and when looking to our Mexican location a consistent continuation of our Middle and South American strategy".
EDAG protective branch
The EDAG protective branch develops and implements ballistic protection systems to integrate into the vehicles of globally leading manufacturers. In this civil segment they are classed as leaders. The extensive portfolio includes conception, integration development of vehicle protective systems, production of ballistic protection modules, complete protection kits and vehicle superstructures for production vehicles.
EDAG uses their extensive expertise for development for volume production in the area of civil vehicle development and ensures the continuity of all functions in the vehicle. EDAG produces the protection systems on location in Ingolstadt and in Mexico. KMW will take over from EDAG and continue these activities at both locations.
Stategically a logical step
The EDAG group will now concentrate on engineering services in this area and will continue working closely with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. "We see the sale of the production of armoured vehicles to KMW as the perfect condition to further develop the business model for our approx. 70 employees in Ingolstadt and Mexico. This decision is another step for EDAG to maintain their positioning as solely a developer for vehicles and production plants" Jörg Ohlsen, CEO of the EDAG Group explains.
KMW intends to strengthen its role in the market for highly protected, military wheel and track armoured vehicles with the acquisition. The newly acquired civil technologies are a significant addition. Also the purchase of the EDAG branch allows the expansion of business activities around highly protected civil vehicles and compliments current strategical activities to establish KMW on the South American continent.
