Electrode cap changer

The electrode cap changer enables a frictionless automated change of worn out resistive spot welding electrodes.

EDAG's electrode cap changer permits caps to be changed without any force being applied to the electrode shaft or the spot welding tongs. This means that, as there is practically no wear and tear on the electrode shaft, it will not normally need to be changed any more. The use of the EDAG electrode cap changer leads to an increase in system availability, due to the automated electrode cap change-over. The fact that it is no longer necessary to change the shaft reduces the maintenance and running costs of the welding tongs.

Requirements for the electrode cap changer

  • Clearance between electrode cap and shaft: 3 - 5 mm
  • Minimum opening welding tongs between the electrode caps: 50 mm

Time needed to change electrode cap

  • 15-30 seconds

Fields of application

A stationary cap changer is supplied for robot-controlled spot welding tongs. For stationary welding tongs, a roboter-controlled electrode cap changer is supplied, and this can be permanently attached, or undocked, depending on the customer's wishes.
In any case, a linear slider removes the electrode caps by inserting itself between the electrode cap and thrust collar of the electrode shaft.

Electrode cap magazines for standard electrode caps (F16 – F20) are successfully used, as well as various special symmetrical and asymmetrical types (e.g. excentric caps).
