Functional test benches for sensors and vehicle components

Used in developement for checking the function of sensors and vehicle components, and in manufacturing for quality control

In our functional test stands, we realistically simulate the mechanical and thermic stress situations to which vehicle components are subjected. Appropriate measuring technology is applied to check that the faultless functioning of the components and their operational stability.

The following vehicle components can be tested:

  • Crash sensors / airbag control units
  • Air conditioning components (leakage or bursting pressure tests)

Impact test stand for crash sensors and airbag control units

When airbag control units and crash sensors are being developed, the activation characteristics of the sensors are checked. Test stands simulate the crash performance of the vehicle. Reproducible, adjustable impacts in varying directions are simulated.

Standard test benches usually take the form of a pendulum striking mechanism with a roller device.

Disadvantages

  • Test stands of this type require a great deal of space, and are not mobile.
  • They are complicated to operate, the pendulum must be manually raised to the required drop height, and the roller device moved manually into its starting position.

EDAG has developed a fully automatic impact test stand which can be used to test the airbag control unit and sensors with variably adjustable parameters.

  • 2 separately driven slides
  • Spring impulse transmission
  • Implementation by means of electric linear drives

Benefits

  • Sensitive approach to the activation threshold of the sensors
  • Fully automatic testing process
    - Positioning
    - Testing
  • Simple operation on the monitor
    - Pulse strength
    - Angle of impact
    - Evaluation
