EDAG Group establishes Competence Centre for Electric Mobility
The EDAG Group has pooled existing skills connected with all-round, sustainable mobility concepts, establishing its own electric mobility competence centre at the beginning of 2010.

As the world's largest independent engineering partner catering to the mobility needs of the future, the EDAG Group, with its Production, Product Development und Manufacturing Equipment Divisions, covers the entire value chain in the automotive, aerospace, commercial vehicle, rail and renewable energy industries. Already, the EDAG Group's product range includes not just the planning and implementation of wind power, photovoltaic and battery system plants, but also the application of energy-efficient plant engineering and the development of intelligent charging systems for electric vehicles.

Electric mobility – opportunity for symbiosis between the automotive industry and energy suppliers
Electric mobility harbours chances and potential for the automotive industry and energy suppliers alike, though both fields will need to work together to achieve a successful implementation of electric drive systems. The automotive industry can serve as the supplier of user-specific sustainable mobility, with the energy provider guaranteeing the necessary infrastructure and generating additional business models for the use of regenerative energy.

Within the growing electric mobility market, the EDAG Group sees itself as a catalyst between the above-mentioned industries and its intention is - starting from the automotive sector - to guarantee sustainable mobility. Only by taking into account the various branches of industry and cooperating will it be possible to achieve success in the field of electric mobility.

"The multi-disciplinary approach of a competence centre puts us in a position to bring together the know-how of various EDAG departments, to use synergies, and to offer our customers the same kind of quality solutions for electric mobility, an extremely dynamic field, that they have come to know and expect from us," says Jörg Ohlsen, Spokesman of the EDAG Executive Board, taking a look at the way conditions are changing.

Desire for innovative, all-inclusive vehicle concepts
The grouping together of vehicle development-related activities in the competence centre accommodates the increasing importance of and demands for new, all-inclusive vehicle concepts.

As Heiko Herchet, Head of the Competence Centre for Electric Mobility at the EDAG Group, emphasises, "The establishment of the centre enables us to offer our customers the EDAG Group's wide range of products and services, focusing on the issues which are currently occupying the automotive industry and will become increasingly important in the future," and points to the company's latest concept car.

With the EDAG "Light Car – Open Source" displayed at last year's Geneva Motor Show, the EDAG Group addressed a number of vehicle-specific issues relating to electric drive systems, lightweight construction and further highly innovative special purpose design matters, the development of which will be presented to the public at this year's Geneva Show in March.
