The highlight of the EDAG Group's presentation at the CEBIT 2010 was “jEDWIN - Unified Communications”, a system which was developed in-house. The system provides the customer with an all-round, integrated package to cover all communication tasks in everyday business operations.
In addition to telephone calls, faxes, answering machines and telephone conferences, the system can also organise data transfer or instant messaging. Call centre functions, too, or web conferences, can easily be integrated in this central system.

“The great advantage of the system lies in its basic concept. We made a conscious decision to construct out product around neutral, standard industrial components which are not dependent on manufacturers and contract periods. The software used is an open source solution, and therefore free of licence fees,” explains Thomas Heumüller, Head of IT at EDAG. “This gives our customers a stable, low-cost and independent system for all the communication requirements of their companies.”
The first “jEDWIN-VOIP” unified communications module was created in 2007 and successfully implemented as the communications system for ED WORK, HR services provider and subsidiary of the EDAG Group, which at the time had 30 branch offices. The product was subsequently developed into a complete unified communications solution in accordance with customers' requirements. Today, “jEDWIN” has reference customers from copmanies of all sizes.
“Positive feedback from our customers induced us to enter our system for the 2010 IT innovation award. When we entered, the idea wasn't so much to win the gold medal, but to increase our knowledge through the competition experience. We are currently in the midst of a technical evolution and commercial revolution in the telecommunications industry. The customers have had more than enough of restrictive contracts binding them to manufacturers, like when the Linux success story took off. The unified communications market is so huge that there will be more than enough potential for anyone providing manufacturer-independent solutions in the future,” says Thomas Heumüller.
