Consequent use of new structural materials and adaptation to vehicle design is necessary to produce energy saving vehicles with high passive safety. High strength steel or aluminium alloy, heightened stiffness requirements as well as changed component accessibility often require alternative joining methods.
Here in the meantime the laser welding has been established as high process rate and good component accessibility can be reached as well as new alternative materials with good reproducibility can be joined.
